Do Your Thing, Your Way Because You Gotta Be You

How to succeed in your career by being you

Do Your Thing In Your Way Because You Gotta Be You

To succeed at anything, but especially your career, you have to lean into your youness - be the most you - and do the thing in your own way. There will always be someone who wants the same things in life as you - but nobody can or will do it like you.

When you are you and you lean into it and let things be instinctive and easy you’re simply better at them. And you’re not just better at accomplishing things, but because you’re acting with ease (and ease means less friction and stress) you become a better:

  • spouse

  • employee

  • community member

  • parent

  • dog parent

  • ...person

When you let yourself do your things in your way, when you let them be easy when you do them instinctively, when you don't fight against your nature your strengths your interests but lean into them, all of your energy goes into (instead of fighting against) Who You Are - producing amazing results.

It all starts when you begin by deciding/discovering/learning what it is that you actually want to do - what actually is your thing. Then you need to do that thing in the most you way possible.

The only way to truly find happiness doing what you're doing is to do your thing in your way.

While someone out there might want the exact job as you, you doing it your way means you will get hired for doing it your way - for being you.

The sooner you begin working from your point of view, the way you want to do things, the way you solve problems, you will hit career milestones, accomplishments and goals not only sooner and bigger, but blow it all out of the water - better.

If you try to hide who you are and soften your edges, there will become a point where there's nothing left to grab on to. Your edges, those uneven pieces, are exactly what make you - you.

If everyone did everything the exact same way A) life would be very boring B) Burger King would have no slogan and C) you would not be able to be engaged in work that was truly meaningful to you.

Just as an experiment, why don’t you try to start a morning journal where you ask yourself how you can lean into your youness today, just for today or create a list of long-term goals that are very personal, look at them often and ask yourself how you, yourself and only you can help you achieve those goals.
